Licence to Operate a Slewing Crane (up to 100 tonnes) is the training accreditation and licence required to operate a slewing crane up to 100 tonnes.

We have specifically designed this course to be delivered onsite and we work with our clients to align with their operations, procedures and equipment to create the most effective and efficient training experience.

Our C1 Slewing crane course designed to ensure that participants have the skills and knowledge required to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 100 tonnes) for licensing purposes. It encompasses the requirement for the up to 60 tonnes licence.

The program is made up of the following nationally accredited unit of competency:

Course Details

WorkSafe Connect’s Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 100 tonnes) course requires students to plan the work, conduct routine checks, set up crane, transfer loads, mobile loads and shut down and secure the crane.

During the Licence to Operate a Slewing Crane ( up to 100 tonne) students will cover the following topics:

  • Operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 100t capacity) for the lifting and moving of loads to the safe working rated capacity in conjunction with other
  • Apply risk assessment and hazard control strategies
  • Use and interpret crane manufacturer's specifications and data
  • Verify problems and equipment faults and demonstrate appropriate response procedures
  • Appropriate mathematical procedures for estimation and measurement of loads
  • WHS legislation, standards and codes of practice relevant to the full range of processes for the crane class
  • Mobile slewing crane characteristics and capabilities to allow the configuration of the crane to suit the range of loads
  • Understanding of the hierarchy of hazard identification and control
  • Organisational and workplace standards, requirements, policies and procedures for conducting operations for the crane class
  • Procedures for the recording, reporting and maintenance of workplace records and information
  • Rated capacity and working load limits (including use of crane load charts)
  • Typical routine problems encountered in the process and with equipment and adjustments required for correction

Training will be conducted by one of our experienced high risk trainer assessors who have industry currency, strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards.

Practical and theoretical activities drive the training experience to ensure that the training is engaging, interesting and relevant.

Students must also provide three items of original identity evidence. A copy of each must be retained by WorkSafe Connect, excepting a financial institution debit/credit card (where a record is kept that the original was sighted but card numbers are not retained on file).

Most students bring their drivers licence, Medicare card and a credit / debit card with them on the day which satisfies the identity requirements.

To complete the course, students must successfully complete all assessments which are aligned with the national unit of competency.

All assessments are completed during the course – no assessment activities need to be completed prior to or post the training course.

Upon successful completion of the course requirements, students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following unit of competency:

  • TLILIC0021 – Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 100 tonnes)

Students will also be provided with an electronic 'Candidate Assessment Summary' (CAS) to apply for the High-Risk Licence through Work Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ).

Please note there is an additional fee charged by WHSQ to apply for the licence.


You may be eligible to receive CSQ funding for this course if you work in the building & construction industry in Queensland.

If eligible, you will receive funding of $1,610.00, which can be offset against the course cost.
