Licence to operate a non-slewing mobile crane (greater than 3 tonnes capacity)

Licence to Operate a Non-Slewing Crane is the training accreditation and licence required to operate a non-slewing crane.

We have specifically designed this course to be delivered onsite and we work with our clients to align with their operations, procedures and equipment to create the most effective and efficient training experience.

Our course provides students with the skills and knowledge to operate a mobile crane of greater than 3 tonnes capacity that incorporates a boom or jib which includes articulated type mobile cranes and locomotive cranes, but does not include vehicle tow trucks, for licensing purposes.

The program is made up of the following nationally accredited unit of competency:

  • TLILIC0040 – Licence to operate a non-slewing mobile crane (greater than 3 tonnes capacity)

Course Details

Our Non-Slewing (CN) Licence course applies to the activities of a person operating a non-slewing crane with a capacity exceeding 3 tonnes. A person performing this work is required to hold a non-slewing mobile crane high risk work (HRW) licence.

This unit requires a person operating non-slewing mobile crane to plan the work, conduct routine checks, set up crane, transfer load, mobile load and shut down and secure crane.

Licence to Operate a Non-Slewing Crane course topics include:

  • WHS legislation
  • Risks and Hazards
  • General inspection and preparation of work site requirements
  • PPE
  • Set up crane
  • Conduct routine checks
  • Transfer load
  • Travel crane
  • Carry out multiple crane lifts
  • Carry out operator maintenance
  • Shut down and secure crane

Training will be conducted by one of our experienced high risk trainer assessors who have industry currency, strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards.

Practical and theoretical activities drive the training experience to ensure that the training is engaging, interesting and relevant.

To complete the course, students must successfully complete all assessments which are aligned with the national unit of competency.

All assessments are completed during the course – no assessment activities need to be completed prior to or post the training course.

Upon successful completion of the course requirements, students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following unit of competency:

  • TLILIC0040 – Licence to operate a non-slewing mobile crane (greater than 3 tonnes capacity)

Students will also be provided with an electronic 'Candidate Assessment Summary' (CAS) to apply for the High-Risk Licence through Work Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ).

Please note there is an additional fee charged by WHSQ to apply for the licence.


You may be eligible to receive CSQ funding for this course if you work in the building & construction industry in Queensland.

If eligible, you will receive funding of $1,250.00, which can be offset against the course cost.
